Flash Tattoos by Maddi

Flash tattoos are designs drawn ahead of time and ready to tattoo. The tradition goes back to old tattoo shops, where sheets of designs covered the walls for walk-in customers to choose from. Today flash is a quick, affordable way to get original artwork, and each of my flash designs is tattooed only once, so your piece stays unique.

My flash sheets at Black Hope Tattoo in Colchester include hearts, flowers, sea life and mixed sheets of smaller designs. Follow @maddi.ink on Instagram to see new flash designs, or browse the current sheets below.

Placement

Choosing a Design

Small Pieces

Small flash fits wrists, ankles, behind the ear or the inner arm, and is a great first tattoo.

Medium Pieces

Forearms, calves and upper arms suit medium designs that need a little more room for detail.

Pairs and Sets

Some sheets work as matching tattoos for friends or partners. Ask if you would like a pair.

Adjustments

Small size changes are fine. Larger changes turn a flash piece into custom work, which is also an option.

Because flash is already drawn, there is no design time to wait for, so flash appointments can often be booked sooner than custom pieces. Prints of my flash are also coming to the shop.

Good to Know

How Flash Works

Flash is the quickest way to get tattooed by me. The design is already drawn, so there is no design time to wait for. Tell me which design you want, where it is going and roughly how big, and I will send you a date.

Small changes to size are fine. If you want bigger changes, that becomes a custom piece, which is no problem either.

  • Each design tattooed once
  • Quicker to book than custom work
  • Great for a first tattoo
How It Works

From Idea to Tattoo

  1. Send an Enquiry

Use the booking form or DM @maddi.ink with your idea, where it is going, roughly how big, and any reference photos. Reference images help far more than a long description.

  2. Quote and Deposit

I will reply with a price estimate and available dates. Paying the deposit secures your slot, and it comes off the final price on the day.

  3. Design

For custom work I draw your design before the appointment. On the day we check the size and placement with a stencil and adjust until it sits right on your body.

  4. Tattoo Day

Eat a proper meal beforehand, stay hydrated and wear clothes that give easy access to the area.

  5. Aftercare

You leave with the area wrapped and clear aftercare instructions. My full aftercare guide is on this site if you need a reminder at home.

Questions

Flash Tattoo FAQs

What does "tattooed once" mean?

Once a flash design has been tattooed, I do not tattoo it again. Nobody else will have the same piece from me.

How do I claim a flash design?

Send me the design number through the booking form or on Instagram, along with where you want it and roughly how big. A deposit secures it.

Can I change a flash design?

Small tweaks to size or minor details are fine. Bigger changes become a custom design.

Is flash cheaper than custom work?

Flash usually has a set price per design, and there is no design time involved, which often makes it the more affordable option. See prices and deposits for details.
