About the Style

Floral Tattoos by Maddi

Floral tattoos are one of the most popular tattoo styles, and for good reason. Flowers can be delicate or bold, tiny or sleeve-sized, and they work on every part of the body. They also carry meaning: birth flowers, a favourite from a grandparent's garden, or a bouquet from a wedding day all make personal starting points.

My floral work is drawn by hand for each client in black and grey, with fine detail in the petals and leaves and soft shading to give depth. Flowers also pair well with darker subjects, so you will see roses and peonies wrapped around skulls, snakes and animals in my black and grey work as well as single stems on their own.

Placement

Choosing Placement and Size

Forearm

A long stem or a vertical bouquet follows the line of the forearm and is easy to show off or cover.

Upper Arm and Shoulder

Rounded clusters of flowers wrap well around the shoulder cap and can grow into a half sleeve later.

Leg and Calf

Plenty of room for larger arrangements, or for mixing flowers with other elements.

Ribs and Spine

Flowing designs that follow the body, though these areas tend to be more sensitive.

Fine detail needs enough space to stay crisp as the tattoo ages. If a design is too small for its detail, I will suggest going a little bigger or simplifying it so it still looks sharp in years to come.

Good to Know

Planning Your Floral Tattoo

Flowers suit almost any placement because they can bend and climb with the body. Most floral pieces start with a conversation about which flowers mean something to you, then a design drawn to sit along the muscle rather than flat on top of it.

Bring photos of the flowers you like, even phone snaps from a garden. Birth flowers, flowers from a wedding or a memorial bouquet all make good starting points.

  • Works on its own or combined with skulls, snakes and animals
  • Good first tattoo or an addition to a sleeve
How It Works

From Idea to Tattoo

  1. Send an Enquiry

Use the booking form or DM @maddi.ink with your idea, where it is going, roughly how big, and any reference photos. Reference images help far more than a long description.

  2. Quote and Deposit

I will reply with a price estimate and available dates. Paying the deposit secures your slot, and it comes off the final price on the day.

  3. Design

For custom work I draw your design before the appointment. On the day we check the size and placement with a stencil and adjust until it sits right on your body.

  4. Tattoo Day

Eat a proper meal beforehand, stay hydrated and wear clothes that give easy access to the area.

  5. Aftercare

You leave with the area wrapped and clear aftercare instructions. My full aftercare guide is on this site if you need a reminder at home.

Questions

Floral Tattoo FAQs

Can you combine different flowers in one tattoo?

Yes. Mixed bouquets are a great way to include birth flowers for several family members, or flowers that each mean something different to you.

Do floral tattoos have to be in colour?

No. My floral work is in black and grey, which gives a soft, timeless look and ages well.

Can you add flowers to an existing tattoo?

Often, yes. Flowers are a good way to fill space around older work or tie separate tattoos together. Send me a photo of the area and I will let you know what is possible.

How long does a floral tattoo take?

It depends on size and detail. A small single stem can be done in one short session, while larger pieces may need more time. I will give you an estimate when I quote.
